It has been a long journey and we have come a long way since we began producing a documentary film on the history of the 65th Infantry Regiment some years ago. Many of you have been with us from the very beginning. Well, it’s finally going to happen! In the past few months, we have been very busy preparing the project to complete a 1-hour English program. In documentary filmmaking, you acquire a lot more research and information than you can actually use. Then you must go through the difficult decision of sorting it all out and selecting the final content. Our very long rough script needed to be restructured and polished, so we called Patricia Garcia-Rios, a script consultant, to help us with this immense task. We are also pleased to introduce another important new member of our team, editor Miguel Picker, who will begin the editing process bringing us that much closer to completion. To learn more about them, you can read their biographies below. Once the film is finished, we will submit it for consideration for broadcasting.
We could not have arrived at this point in the project without the help and financial support of many, many people. Thank you all for believing in us and believing in the importance of getting the story of the 65th Infantry Regiment told so the general American public could learn about them. The coast is not clear though. And we continue to actively raise funds to also produce a Spanish version and a shorter educational version. Now more than ever is when we need your help! We are so close! Help us get over this last hurdle by sending in your financial contribution now. Remember income tax time is coming and your donation is tax-deductible. We will continue to keep you informed of our progress and look forward to the day, very soon, when we can announce the completion of this film. Again, thank you for your continued support.
With the holidays approaching, this is also the perfect time to wish all of our 65th veterans, friends and supporters a wonderful holiday season!

| Citizens Educational Foundation Donates $25,000 |
We are thrilled to announce that the Citizens Educational Foundation (CEF) has donated $25,000 for editing and post-production expenses for completion of our documentary film on the history of the 65th Infantry Regiment. The Citizens Educational Foundation is a non-profit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to the decolonization of Puerto Rico through activities which include research, education & dialogue, and advocacy. The Foundation has been one of our earliest and continued supporters and with this latest generous donation of $25,000 the CEF is demonstrating their strong commitment to our important, historical project.
This is especially great news given that it falls on the heels of a recent decision by the Korean War Veterans Association not to sponsor the documentary film. The Chairman of the KWVA’s Budget and Finance Committee, Jim Ferris, cited that they were concerned that the KWVA would favor one group of Korean War veterans over their whole constituency. Nevertheless the Chairman said they were impressed with the screening they saw and wished us much success.
Although we are disappointed with the KWVA’s decision, we are excited and grateful that CEF has decided to support us. I would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the CEF, and in particular, to its President, Herb Brown, III, Esq. For more information on CEF, you can visit their website at www.cefus.net.
With these new substantial funds, we are also ecstatic to report that we will begin finalizing the English language version of the documentary film which we hope to complete by early 2006. In the next few months, we will hire a writer to revise and shorten the editing script which is now running at about 2 hours long and hire an editor to begin the editing and post-production phase of this project.

El Pozo Productions Invites the Executive Council
of the Korean War Veterans Association to be Sponsors |
| On March 15, Producer Noemí Figueroa Soulet and Associate Producer William Cruz conducted a special presentation of the work-in-progress documentary film THE PUERTO RICAN SOLDIER, to the Executive Council of the Korean War Veterans Association (KWVA) during their meeting in Reno, Nevada. The film features the 65th Inf. Regt. which fought extensively in the Korean War. El Pozo Productions invited the KWVA to be a presenting organization of the film by providing a sponsorship donation which, in turn, would provide the KWVA with substantial exposure. The Council is considering our proposal and will convene again in July and vote to present a motion for sponsorship to their national membership. At the meeting, KWVA President, Col. Lou Dechert honored 65th veteran, Jack Tolbert, with a special recognition.

The KWVA published an article on the documentary film in the February/March issue of the KWVA’s magazine titled “The Graybeards”. As a result of this article, we received a $250 donation from the Capt. Edgar Dale Post 81-American Legion chapter of Eldorado, Kansas and a $100 donation from KWVA member (Lt.) Robert Roser, of Co. D, 27th Inf. “Wolfhounds”, Regt., 25th Div, who wrote “Attached donation in name of my jeep driver, Cpl. Enrique Rodriguez, Ponce, P.R. His quick action during a scrape in Munsan-Ni (Korea ’53) saved my neck!! A truly fine warrior.” We thank you for your donations!
Thank you also to Col. Dechert and the KWVA Executive Council for inviting us to give our presentation. |
